The National Caravan Council (NCC) has thrown its support behind the Back British Holidays campaign, urging its extensive network of over 700 members to actively participate in promoting and advocating for the initiative. This campaign, which calls for urgent Government action to address the sharp decline in UK domestic tourism, is crucial for the survival and prosperity of the UK’s tourism and leisure vehicle industry.
The NCC is calling on its members to leverage their influence and platforms to amplify the campaign’s message. By sharing the campaign’s aims and objectives on social media, websites, and other communication channels, members can play a pivotal role in raising awareness and driving support for the campaign. The NCC believes that a united front will significantly enhance its impact and help secure the necessary Government intervention.
Back British Holidays outlines several key objectives aimed at revitalising domestic tourism:
1. Sustain and enhance promotion of domestic tourism: Increasing awareness and attractiveness of UK holiday destinations.
2. Boost financial support for tourism businesses: Providing essential financial aid to businesses struggling due to the downturn.
3. Collaborate to manage inflation and operational costs: Working together to mitigate the financial pressures on tourism businesses.
4. Empower local government in tourism development: Enabling local authorities to play a more active role in tourism planning and development.
5. Ensure reliable travel to UK destinations: Improving transportation infrastructure to make travel within the UK more accessible and reliable.
6. Expand and strengthen UK tourism zones: Developing and promoting designated tourism areas to attract more visitors.
7. Advance green tourism and net-zero preparations: Encouraging sustainable tourism practices and preparing the industry for a greener future.
By actively participating, members can help safeguard the future of the UK holiday sector, which currently contributes £31 billion annually to the economy and supports 300,000 direct jobs, with an additional three million indirect employments.
• Share campaign messages: Use social media platforms, websites, and newsletters to spread the word about the campaign.
• Engage with local communities: Collaborate with local businesses and tourism boards to promote the campaign’s objectives.
• Advocate for policy changes: Support the campaign’s petition and engage with policymakers to push for the recommended actions.
The NCC remains committed to working alongside its members and other stakeholders to ensure a vibrant and sustainable future for UK holidays.
